Room 403 by reubennegron Room 403 by reubennegron
Hi all,

Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive.

I won't go into too much detail here but long story short, I have been a wee bit busy as of late. I am still making art which you can more readily see on my Instagram account: instagram.com/reubennegron/
One highlight of this summer was taking part in Bad Dads VI - An Art Show Tribute to the Films of Wes Anderson, an annual exhibition of Wes Anderson inspired art put on my San Francisco's Spoke Art Gallery. Above was my contribution to the show, inspired by the short film, Hotel Chevalier. This year's exhibition was held at Joseph Gross Gallery in NYC during the first week of August. I'm happy to report that my piece sold during the opening and was also featured in Time Out New York and Vogue Magazine! All in all it was a pretty amazing experience and I'm grateful to Ken and Jess at Spoke for inviting me to experience it all. I hope you guys enjoy this piece too. And if you're not familiar with this film, you can watch the entire thing here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkqIVd…

See you soon fellow Deviants!

I like how you can take any scene and gave it certain amount of intensity, without going over the top, it may sound contradictory, but it's a subtle intensity.

Thank you so much - I really truly appreciate your comment. That subtle intensity is something I'm always chasing in my work. If it isn't there then I'm just not interesting in painting it. I'm glad it comes through and isn't just all in my head.

You're welcome. In a way I know where you come from, I have my own pursuit,
I usually try to portray the "moment before the moment", if you know what I mean.

Why do you post on "deviant art"? it's an art trash heap of the internet. Social Psychology theory explains that doing so it cheapens it.

You are more than welcome to your opinion but that being the case, I have to ask why do you post to Deviant Art? If you feel that it's a "trash heap" that "cheapens" art, why are you a member and why do you post your work here?

As for me, Deviant Art has always been a place where I've been able to interact with other creative people. Some of those interactions have blossomed into life-long friendships. I have received constructive and thoughtful criticism here and been challenged by debates over censorship. It's been a platform for me to grow and experiment as an artist and as a person. For every person that sees my work and has the courage to interact with it, to open a dialog about the ideas I portray, I am justified in why I continue to post to Deviant Art. I might not have the time I once did to maintain my page but I will always keep this account open and I will always return to see the artists I follow grow and evolve. It's a beautiful and enriching experience, one that I would never demean by believe myself better than anyone else on here.

A very political response, for certain.
For me, I don't post any serious work of mine on Deviant art. As for; why do I post anything at all? It's really just an experiment, something I've been investigating. But the amount of trash on here is truly phenomenal. I don't consider myself "better" than others, but I do have a sense of taste. Poor taste is the norm unfortunately. This western culture of mediocrity,  so dull, so plastic. People are simply emulating the same images and icons which have been fed to them. Boring.

Excellent! I love that film. For me it perfectly encapsulates so many of my own ex-lover experiences. I feel like I'm watching a self portrait.

Yeah it really was <3
I love all of Wes Anderson's stuff (the ones I've seen anyway), and I think that you can pause his movies at any time and you get a perfect reference for a painting :) Everything is so well positioned in the shot..
